Is it fate or destiny?

“We fail to say the right words, because we choose to say the wrong words!
We choose to say the wrong words, because we fail to think about the right words!”

- Ernest Agyemang Yeboah

What does the above quote evoke in you?
Do you agree with this or do you believe you always say the right thing?
Do you think before you speak and what are the consequences of not doing so?

Of course we all know that we can 'put our foot' in it at times and sabotage our relationships
and rapport with others by sometimes saying the wrong thing.
But are we fully aware of how much our words actually sabotage ourselves also?

Let's take the words 'Fate' and 'Destiny' -
pretty similar, right? .
..Or are they...

Fate is from the Latin fatum, which means "that which has been spoken."
Destiny is from the Latin destinare, which means "to make firm" or "to establish."

Which would give YOU more power, control, self motivation and direction?
Destiny or course.

If you want to achieve something, have a goal, want to get somewhere..
You have to firmly establish a destination.
Leaving it to 'fate' might not get you there.

Personally I believe our fate is a result of our destiny
which is determined by our words and actions.

If you are ready to take control of your words, direction in life and ultimately your destiny,
then its time you joined us on the next NLP Practitioner Training.

Your words and your world will never be the same again ;-)

I believe in more than 'positive' thinking.
I believe in 'practical' thinking,
which opens and expands your mind and leads to a more fulfilled and complete life.

This quote sums it up perfectly with these powerful words.

"She sees in black and white,
thinks in greys,
but loves in colour."

JM Storm

Think smart, love being wrong and dream big with a passion.

Are you like Scrat?

Poor Scrat was a little saber-toothed squirrel in the animation Ice Age. He was constantly chasing his beloved Acorn - to no avail - and always resulting in disastrous consequences for him and his surroundings.

Is there a message in this?

Well...last week I GOT the Acorn ;-)

An exquisite little gift of handmade jewelry by my love. He knew I would appreciate the symbolism.

It got me thinking.....

Are we always chasing, striving, hoping, wishing, dreaming.
Longing for something or someone just out of arm's reach?

If you find you may be doing a little Scrat impersonation at times, think about how it leaves you feeling.
If you are chasing a bit too hard then you might be feeling at the same moment a sense of 'not enough' as you are without it. What does that do to you?

I recently felt 'loss'. It hurt and I felt very afraid. I wasn't sure what to do next.
I was confused and perplexed at the change in the status quo.

Do we sometimes tend to get too familiar, too reliant, too complacent with 'things' as they are?

Well, my little acorn is now around my neck to remind me of two things.

1 - We all have our 'acorns' - our seeds, our dreams.

Whether you can see it or touch it, YOU still have it. BE it and live your life from that place.
Be strong, brave, courageous. Yes dream big and have goals BUT and it's important -
DO this from a place that you are enough already.

2 - BE present. Be in the moment. Be grateful.

My little gift might one day break off from my neck.
I could lock it away and never wear it at the risk of loosing it, but then I would not be enjoying it.
Instead I choose to hold my head high, allow the sun to shine on my face,
and even if one day I have to say goodbye .... I know that really, I always have it within me.

Live with purpose and gratitude at every moment.
Remember you were that nut who stood his ground ;-)

It's the principle of it....

This past weekend I saved a sheep I named Popeye (he loves Olives - that's for another story!) from going to the 'factory'. Instead he will live out his life with lots of friends in a happy home.

This reminds me of a terrible joke - brace yourself!

Question; Where do sheep go on vacation?
Answer; To the Baaaaaaahamas of course! ;-)

I know very baaaaaad .. lol...

I saved him as I felt it was a matter of principle. I could save him if I really wanted to.
So I acted on my principles. Once I had decided I would, I knew it would happen and it did.

And why the joke ...you may be wondering?

One of the principles I learnt from my NLP Training was about the power of humour.
I once heard Richard Bandler (the Co-creator of NLP) say..
'The moment we begin to laugh at our problems, we change chemically.'
Ever since then I have chosen to add a lot of humour to my day and it helped.

Another thing that helped me was understanding that once we had absorbed these key fundamental messages and 'rules' of the universe - so to speak - we could apply them in many different ways.

One of these such principles for example is 'There is no failure only feedback.'
This means we keep taking the lessons and we keep going. Either way we are winning.

One of my students from the last NLP Training really 'got' this.
He recently told me that everything changed for him so drastically once he really grasped this fact. He now knows he can find his own 'techniques' to help people change, once he has applied the principles. An incredibly powerful and effective Martial Artist and Mind Coach, Fabio Chuairi is now drastically changing lives with his combination of talents, skills and true integrity and passion.

Here are some other KEY NLP Lessons for life that my students have learned.

Helena Gilhooly, who makes beautiful inspiring jewellery and angels over at Busybeaders came to The BootCamp. She says she 'learnt to listen to her inner self more... and is more aware of her use of language ..and is able to.trust her gut instinct more.'
Language, both internal and external is a very major part of what we talk about in NLP.
Your language will dictate your direction of your thoughts and hence how you feel.
Change that and you will change the next results.

Another student, fully absorbed another of the key NLP Principles, which is that, 'We have all the resources we need within us'. She has now since taken the world by storm with her new found confidence! She says ...'I've learnt to prepare for my success in advance. Whether you think you can or cant your right!'
Karina Murray from Aunua agrees with Henry Ford's quote which is in The BlackBelt MasterMind Book and now knows how to fully apply it. We have to PLAN for success the same way as we often unfortunately plan for failure. As Bandler says...'Disappointment takes adequate planning.' Karina has learnt from her NLP Training which way is much more beneficial for her! Visualisation here is key.

More wonderful learnings and lessons for life came from a very talented woman, who creates bespoke gifts and who trained as an NLP Practitioner with me. She says.."I have learned that all I need is within myself. I have stopped looking for validation in others, stopped playing old movies and started really seeing things for how they are and not how I think they are. People give so much away about what they really feel and think without really realising it. As you say the map is not the territory." Geri Fortune from Pebbles & Wax. and Sew Enchanted.
(Check out her gifts for Christmas!)
This is one of the BIGGEST NLP lessons - The Map is not the Territory - meaning what we believe is the reality may not always be so. To each one of us it is different. Learning how to read people gives us so much more insight into how they tick.

Deirdre O'Rourke O'Sullivan from the beautiful Kays Flower School and the most supportive and loving family I have ever seen, came to The Bootcamp and then did a Walk the Talk.
Little did she know how much these lessons would help her later in life.
She says she learnt that "It's
okay to move on .. move away .. and move forward,"
..and she did just that after beating Cancer and getting on with her life. What a lesson for life xx

"Life is a choice between fear and love, and when I asked myself better questions in a contextual way everything became clear. What I mean is that away from everything we think we know there is an inner us that speaks loudly and clearly. The trick is to find a way to listen to it by asking better questions. That is my favourite lesson of the many, many, many!"
Patrick Mercie was already an incredible man and coach before The NLP Training.
Now with this level of understanding of the principles of NLP and the impact of powerful questions, he is simply unstoppable, and is now planning to run 11 Marathons in 11Days!
What a guy!

Alan Hennessy, a Social Media Consultant & Broadcaster is the most likeable and charismatic man you could meet and when he joined the NLP Practitioner I knew that he would really GET the learnings and I was right.
He says.."Remember Life is for the living! If You have self-belief you have everything you need. The NLP course taught me to understand how the mind really works. When you can pick up and understand how people are really thinking and the actions they make, you understand that every situation can be manipulated for a positive outcome. The course also provided me with the ability to turn negatives into positives in everything we do and say. When it comes to business and presentations, body language and actions play a key role in moving people from pain to pleasure, through anchor points, words and tones. Every day since doing the NLP Course has made me more powerful and has given me the sense to know I am in control of my mind. I now have a strong inner peace with myself and self-belief and I know how to channel it."
His business Kompass Media is now going from strength to strength!

Lisa Redmond blogs with great insight about Life and Relationships over at Life Decoded.
After The NLP Training she said .."The biggest thing I learned was the importance of creating doubt in your assumptions and how it can open you up to new perspectives. Also how asking the right question can help you get to the core issue much faster."
Again, asking the right questions comes up and what will help change your mind to one that is open to new and more exciting opportunities. Thank you Lisa.

Lastly, Colette Coughlan a smart, very savy lady and a Disability Advocate and an ambassador for
D15LEaders says after attending The Bootcamp that ..
"One of the major things I realised by doing the boot camp was analysing my relationship with people and concluding that I have no unfinished business (or beef) with anybody in life. I am happy in me and with me. There are so many small things which amount to a positive outlook on life. Also you know now how you automatically appear in my brain when I feel threatened or are in fear. That for me is SO powerful." - Wow, what a result from 1 day and may I add that me appearing in her brain as she puts it has been good thing lol ;-)

.
I could go on and on. Of course you can see more here also.

An apple for you...

A little girl was sitting, looking at two shiny apples she was holding in her hands.
Her mother came by, noticed and softly asked her daughter with a smile..
"Sweetie, could you give your mom one of your apples?"

The little girl looked up at her mom for a moment, then suddenly took a quick bite on one
of the apples, and then on the other. The mother felt the smile on her face freeze
and she tried hard not to reveal her disappointment.

As she stood debating internally what to say next,
the little girl handed one of the bitten apples to her mom, and said,
"Mommy, here you are - This is the sweeter one."

This IS a very special occasion!

Footsteps in Rome on a special holiday...
Loved ones gathered together - enjoying and savouring in the moment.
Tasting stories from the past and languishing in bitter sweet photos and memories.
Reminded once more of lessons past forgotten.

****************

When I returned from my weekend in Rome I felt a little sad to have said goodbye to my family.
I had really stayed present in the moment until the time of return.
That is when my 'forward planning' kicked in.

What I mean is.... "Disappointment takes adequate planning."

I had instilled a wonderful pattern - every time I would leave Rome,
I would feel suitably nostalgic and sad.
My ritual would start to kick in on the way to the airport and continue for a few days after home.

Now.. of course it is normal to miss the people you love when you're not with them...
but what I noticed was how EASY it was to trigger emotions from the past in a certain circumstance, environment or series of events.

This is what is called in NLP an ANCHOR.
We have so many of them. Some we are conscious of and many we are not.

Have you ever suddenly felt bad for no apparent reason?
This is very likely because an unconscious Anchor was triggered.
It could have been a smell, taste, situation, environment, look, sound, word, etc etc...

What is really great to know is that once we are aware of how they work
we can change them and also use them to our benefit.

I have decided to change my 'Airport' trigger to one of excitement at what is about to come next.

You see when we remember that EVERYDAY is the MOST SPECIAL of occasions,
we can then PLAN to get excited instead.

I trust you are excited by this concept and planning to take action on it.

My next talk this Thursday on NLP is completely Booked out but ...
if you want to learn more about this and many other ways to change unconscious triggers in you and others, then join us on The NLP Practitioner in March.

I look forward to sharing a very special occasion with you!

What story are you telling?

Picture
The sound of my runners crunching on the road was in sync with my breathing and the words that I kept repeating in my head. .....

An hour earlier I was feeling a little unmotivated, but had just seen a post from one of my students, which rekindled my desire to get out and moving.
I put my runners on and set out on my little 7km 'joggle' - a kinda wiggle-woggle of a run!

A few minutes in and that internal voice kicked in. Yup.. I still have one - loud and clear ;-)

The difference is that now I pay attention to it.

A few days previously I had finished 3 days of speaking and meeting some wonderful folk
at The Wellbeing Festival, about this very subject - 'Our Internal Voice' -
so I was primed and ready to hear what it had to say to me.

I listened carefully.

" Danielle, you're tired! You've worked hard this week. Take it easy!"
" This is just too much like hard work ... maybe I should just walk."
" The more I continue the harder it's going to get!"
" Oh god...I just cant do this.."

Ahem ...sound familiar at all?

Well anyhow..I decided to take action (as I do now) and shut it up!
So I said to myself firmly in my head ..."Come on Danielle, you can do this!"
It helped somewhat, so I continued.
But I noticed something very interesting.
Something I had noticed a long time ago.

Something that had previously in fact ... saved my life.

Eight years ago I was suicidal.
It was the lowest, most scary and loneliest time in my life.
I felt so afraid and overwhelmed by my pain (my negative feelings).
I know now that I am keenly motivated to move away from pain as fast as I can.
(Knowing what motivates you is very beneficial by the way).

The first step was realising that if I wasn't creating a story with a result in my head,
then I couldn't really 'feel' anything. What I mean is, if I wasn't focusing on the past or the future, and either making up a good or bad ending then I wouldn't feel good or bad.

Now that may seem simple but for me at the time it was life-changing.
It was exactly what I needed back then. I just needed that first step.

Now I am a Mind Coach, so of course I believe in having goals and focusing on results. This is what I do best with the people I work with!
But sometimes, when you're overwhelmed and in pain, you simply want to free your mind.
It's vital to know what is needed and when it is needed. Timing is key.
This is what focusing on the NOW does.

For some reason as I joggled along repeating "Danielle, you can do this", I started to notice it felt like pressure. I was in too much discomfort (ie; pain) to feel really motivated. I felt stressed by it. Like I had to achieve.

I changed my internal Mantra to ..." I am here right NOW."
Yes, I know this may sound weird and not very motivational but it ... worked.

Suddenly, I felt more present. I felt grounded in the instant. In that exact moment.
Repeating this inside my head over and over kept bringing me back to right now.
Right NOW - and in so doing I couldn't focus on the discomfort -
because we simply cannot do both simultaneously.

I focused on the instant and before I had time to wonder would I make it home ...
I was shuffling into my garden again and it felt good!

This is the power of your inner dialogue. Use it wisely.

The first step is to simply notice it.
Then decided is it useful to you and how does it cause you to feel.
If it doesn't serve you ..then change i
t...

Remember it's YOUR story.
So make it a good one.

Mindreading....

A Polish man moved to the US and married an American girl. Although his English was far from perfect, they got along very well at the start - but one day he rushed into a lawyer's office and asked him if he could arrange a divorce.
The lawyer said that getting a divorce would depend on the circumstances, and asked him the following questions.

Have you any grounds?
Yes, an acre and half and nice little home.

No, I mean what is the foundation of this case?
It's made of concrete.

I don't think you understand. Does either of you have a real grudge?
No, we have carport, and so don't need one.

I mean what are your relations like?
All my relations are still in Poland.

Mmm ...is there any infidelity in your marriage?
We have a hi-fidelity stereo and good DVD player.

Look ... does your wife beat you up?
No, I am always up before her.

Okay.... just tell me .... why do you want this divorce?
She going to kill me.

What makes you think that?
I've got proof.

What kind of proof?
She's going to poison me.
She bought a bottle at the drugstore and put it on the shelf in the bathroom.
I can read ... and it say's ........ "Polish Remover".

:-) This is a perfect example of how what we believe is reality and our perception can be very misguided ... lol...
It also shows us how we often tend to only look at 'words' in one way....
But what would happen if we decided to consciously step back and simply observe and really listen and read what words people used. Might there be a possibility we would start to notice a lot more?
By the way..did you know that we think about four times faster than we talk, so we have lots of time to really process what's going on!

There's an expression I heard ...'Reading is to the mind what exercise is to the body.'
So the real question in this context is...
how often do you really 'read' what is being said and do you think you are really getting the whole picture?
Well, the last word in my question to you is a clue.
What is being said is a BIG clue as to what the person is really thinking, even if they don't know it themselves.
When we step back and simply listen (without intention to interrupt, we notice a lot more).
If you want to be able to read people better and know what is really going on inside LISTEN and OBSERVE very carefully and LITERALLY!
Let me give you a few examples ;-)

" I cannot get OVER this problem. "
" The issue is so BIG I feel overwhelmed. "
" If only I could put it BEHIND me. "

These are some simple examples of how we as humans process our thoughts and feelings. Even without realizing it, our unconscious mind is giving us very real clues as to what needs to be done to sort an issue. Very simply and a little generalized for us to feel an emotion we have 'done' something inside our heads. We have looked at an image and it comes out unbeknownst to us in our language.
If you want to change a BIG problem, change it internally first -
shrink the mental image down and the feeling will shrink also.
If something feels like it is blocking you from moving forward, imagine the image to your side or behind you and your path will become clear.

You can also notice this by simply observing what people do with their eyes and where they look. Noticing their gestures also will give you a big clue as to WHERE the 'issue' is.
Get more and more practiced with this and soon you will be Mindreading of a sort!! ;-)

Learn more about how to do this on the upcoming NLP Practitioner training!

The Starling Momentum...

8/7/2017

I grew up in Rome, and as a little girl the Starlings swooped and swayed in a magnificent wave
above my head, as I giggled delightedly at their wonderful performance.

I never questioned how they managed to stay so perfectly in sync..... but many scientists did.

They discovered that instead of their prior belief that they ALL interacted with each other,
they each kept track of only seven of their feathery friends, thus being much easier to keep up with.

Naturally and instinctively they knew that a smaller number was easier to manage ...
that taking in the whole picture would probably prove a little too overwhelming.

Maybe, we can do the same?

When we are faced with a seemingly impossible tasks or we want to reach out and grab hold of those dreams, then simply break it down, into small manageable steps, that individually seem more achievable.

Start with those little steps and the magnificence will follow....

Start this Thursday eve with me at Let's create Momentum!

Enjoy the flight.....

A valuable lesson from a mangy cat...

7/24/2017

Picture
An industrious art collector is walking through the city, when he notices a mangy old cat lapping milk from a saucer, in the doorway of a store.

He does a double take, recognizing that
the saucer is extremely old and very valuable.

He thinks fast .. decides .. and walks casually
into the store, and offers to buy the cat for two dollars.

The store owner replies "I'm sorry, but the cat isn't for sale."

The collector says, "Please, I need a hungry cat around the house to catch mice. I'll pay you twenty dollars for that cat."

The owner says "Sold," and hands over the cat.

The collector continues casually, "Hey, for the twenty bucks I wonder if you could throw in that old saucer. The cat's used to it now and it'll save me from having to get a dish."

And the owner says ...
"Sorry buddy, but that's my lucky saucer. So
far this week I've sold sixty-eight cats."

***** Is your way of 'selling' somewhat of a JOKE also? *****

Do you feel bad, guilty, embarrassed or uncomfortable selling your product or service?
Believe me when I say, you are not alone. This is probably one of the biggest struggles I see daily in clients - how to sell/pitch/influence/persuade/convince..etc..etc.. with confidence.

If you even falter.. than you may want to start by re evaluating your perception of the word sell.

In fact, what does the word even mean?

Etymology tells us the word comes from Old English and sellan, meaning;
"to give, furnish, supply, lend; surrender, give up; deliver to; promise."

We then later introduced a bartering system and it became an exchange for cash.

So..why does that cause so many of us to feel bad?

Because, truthfully - we are scared.
Scared of being judged. As not capable, not good enough, not able to deliver on our promise.

So how do we change this?
We start with us.

If we don't have confidence within ourselves, how can we have confidence in what we are selling.
It begins firstly with your relationship with yourself and then with others.
That's simply what sales are. Relationships.
Establish a good relationship with yourself and then the person you are dealing with and most of the time, you will have a sale. Don't and you won't.

Most of this has to do with your INTENTION behind it all. Focus on yourself and you will bring up those previous doubts. Focus on delivering the BEST to the other and you will get more of that.
A lot of it is based on what direction we are looking in.

This is the fundamental learning in Neuro Linguistic Programming (NLP).
It is the study of successful people and how to get from A to B in the fastest most beneficial way.
Richard Bandler says it is 'an Attitude, a Methodology and a Technology' - and I have to say, I agree.

When you start to be aware of your language (inwards and outwards) and how that can affect your mood, thoughts and actions, you in turn start to change your words and use them in a more effective manner. So too with your mental images and what happens inside your head. You can change these also, when you know how, so as to have a more productive and beneficial effect on your life.

When I discovered this, my mood and my attitude changed and 'selling' became simply an opportunity for me to share with others the power of these amazing learnings.

I just HAD to share it! I became passionate about telling people how much it could help -
I believe as long as you have integrity, than your product is needed and is valuable to someone.

I will explain more about my story and how I have used it since, at my next talk 'MASTER'ing Your Mind' on Thursday 27th July. It's on in The Central Hotel in Dublin and is FREE to attend.
I would love to see you there.

If you're ready to start building a better relationship with yourself and discover how to communicate that effectively to others... The next NLP Practitioner Training starts on the 16th September and is booking out fast.

In the kind'time I will leave you with this...

'Selling is not something you do TO someone - it is something you do FOR someone.' - Zig Ziglar

To your success,
Danielle xxx

Distraction to Action in 4 Steps!

I decide to water my flowers in the garden....

As I turn on the hose, I look at my car and decide it needs washing.
As I start toward the garage, I notice mail on the table that I collected from the letter-box earlier.
I decide to go through the mail before I wash the car.

I lay my car keys on the table, put the junk mail in the rubbish bin under the table, and notice that it is full. So, I decide to put the bills back on the table and take out the rubbish first.
But then I think, since I’m going to be near the post-box when I take out the rubbish anyway,
I may as well pay the bills first.

I take my check book off the table, and see that there is only 1 check left. My extra checks are in my desk in the study, so I go inside the house to my desk where I find the can of Coke I’d been drinking.
I’m going to look for my checks, but first I need to push the Coke aside so that I don’t accidentally knock it over. The Coke is getting warm, and I decide to put it in the fridge to keep it cold.

As I head toward the kitchen with the Coke, a vase of flowers on the worktop catches my eye – they need water. I put the Coke on the worktop and discover my reading glasses that I’ve been searching for all morning.

I decide I better put them back on my desk, but first I’m going to water the flowers. I set the glasses back down on the worktop, fill a container with water and suddenly spot the TV remote control.

Someone left it on the kitchen table. I realise that tonight when we watch TV, I’ll be looking for the remote control, but I won’t remember that it’s on the kitchen table, so I decide to put it back in the front room where it belongs, but first I’ll water the flowers.

I pour some water in the flowers, but quite a bit of it spills on the floor.
So, I set the remote control back on the table, get some towels and wipe up the spill.
Then, I head down the hall trying to remember what I was planning to do.

At the end of the day:
- the car isn’t washed
- the bills aren’t paid
- there is a warm can of Coke sitting on the worktop
- the flowers don’t have enough water
- there is still only 1 cheque in my cheque book
- I can’t find the remote control
- I can’t find my glasses
- and I don’t remember what I did with the car keys.

Then, when I try to figure out why nothing got done today,
I’m really baffled because I know I was busy all day, and I’m really tired.

I realize this is a serious problem, and I’ll try to get some help for it, but first I’ll check my e-mail.....

lol.... Is this you??

to help you take ACTION!

1) Decide WHY you want to do this (your goal) - Sit down and write this out.

Look at the pro's and con's.
What will happen if you don't do it.
What will happen if you do.
Notice which motivates you more & focus on more of that.

It will either propel you more away or more towards where you want to go.
....This will hugely increase your motivation and drive to take action....
If you want to be unproductive then here's what to do ;-)

2) Make a mental decision and See it happen!
See the end result and then work backwards, seeing yourself completing each stage.
You've heard me say it before...your unconscious will be tricked into believing its happened!
Also, when you DO it all backwards and see the steps you took, it will take away the fear and overwhelm. This is a biggie!
More on Visualization here :-)

3) Make a list - prioritize!
You cannot do more than one thing at a time. Multitasking is a myth.
Instead list the most important things you need to do and make a decision to do them FIRST.
This will help you in deciding!

4) ACT immediately!
You've heard of Fight or Flight - if you don't take action you will 'freeze'.
Do SOMETHING - take one tiny step -
How do you eat an elephant? One bite at a time....
*by the way I'm a vegetarian and love elephants*
but you get the point .... break it into little chunks,
the satisfaction causes you to want to do more - ACTION propels ACTION.

This causes MOMENTUM!
